Escaping spring: Venturing back up to northern Nagano 長野
こんにちわ!
The weather here in Shizuoka 静岡 has come around finally allowing this lovely prefecture to be worthy of it’s “temperate” reputation. It’s bloody gorgeous out lately, and I’m soaking up every photon of sunlight I can possibly absorb, because the winter was grey and drab, and mostly bone-chillingly freezing(さむい); at least indoors.
So why, pray tell - am I blitzing back up north at the first signs of spring? Well my darlings, this is the last opportunity for me to hit the slopes before this country erupts into a humid, tepid and thoroughly scorching tropical paradise. Ironically, moving away from Canada (and onto a coastal surfing town) has opened up my horizons to semi-regular excursions to some of the best skiing and snowboarding locales in the world. This will be my third trip in as many months, and hopefully this will be my first real opportunity to finally improve my snowboarding technique (I’m currently hovering above the “don’t die!!” level, and would like to approach borderline competence). I think it will be a nice chance to get away from it all (read; my horrendously filthy apartment) and just enjoy some time with fellow English speaking individuals. I leave friday, with a lovely Irish couple, and am returning monday evening… so we even get to take advantage of the “vernal equinox and substitute holiday” long weekend. It rolls off your tongue quite nicely eh?
I realize that blogging about something before it even happens isn’t really how this whole process works, but I’m currently at work with an hour left on the clock, and little to do but study 日本後 (Japanese), and consume copious amounts of お茶(tea) and おみやげ (omiyage).
さよなら
